Grief is experienced on a mind, body and soul level.

A holistic approach to healing is important in grief.

Here, I am sharing a number of approaches to foster nourishment and healing during your grief journey.

  1. Acupuncture - A form of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture has been used for approximately 3000 years. Thin needles are inserted into the skin and work to move energy or qi through the body by stimulating specific meridian points/pathways.

  2. Yoga - Is a combination of physical, mental and spiritual disciplines that create a sense of harmony, strength and peace for the practitioner. Yoga is used as a way to release stress, ease anxiety and deepen a connection to the self.

  3. Meditation - There are a number of styles of meditation one may practice, though mindfulness meditation has gained much popularity in the last number of years. One can practice mindfulness meditation formally through practices like breath awareness or informally through moment to moment awareness of feelings, thoughts and sensations.

  4. Reiki - A Japanese form of energy healing, Reiki is said to allow the practitioner to pass on universal energy to the participant through the hands/palms while working with the participants/clients body and energy centres.

  5. Art Therapy - A combination of psychotherapy and creativity, art therapy can be a beneficial approach for learning more about how to relate to ones emotions, feelings and behaviours. Art therapy serves those of all ages and abilities.

  6. Hypnotherapy - In hypnotherapy you work with the conscious and unconscious mind through a state of trance to create positive change. It is within the unconscious mind that all past experiences and beliefs are held.

  7. Nutrition - A healthy diet and lifestyle is a very important aspect in our experience of grief and loss. Our mind and body, gut and brain health are so intricately linked and play a large role in each parts functioning.

  8. Somatic Experiencing - Created by trauma specialist Dr. Peter Levine, somatic experiencing is a body centred approach to working with the nervous system and fight, flight, freeze responses someone may be experiencing.
